The Nature of Things

It all started with a love of nature and travel.
The owner comes from a village in Brittany, where he began working with a French producer of natural extracts. This work opened his mind to the wonders of the world of natural oils and the positive effects they can have on daily life. It started him on a journey that took him around the world, working and learning from the best distillers and noses.
For over 20 years, from his base in New York, he has worked with two of the world's best natural oil producers. Their vast global network of farmers and distillers teaches him the importance of terroir, where to get the best oil from aromatic plants, the best time to harvest, how to prepare for extraction, the art of distillation, and how to define the quality of a natural oil.
The best noses in the industry teach him to recognize smells, how oils can coexist and how they can make us feel, while from scientists and aromatherapists he learns the positive effects that oils can have on health and well-being.
It is immediately clear to him that oil has a unique history and he learns to recognize what a good smell means.
Working with the highest quality natural oils, he noticed how the market was flooded with disappointing oils and from there an idea was born: to use all his knowledge, gleaned from farmers, distillers, noses, scientists, creatives and the market, to create a brand that celebrated the best quality natural oils and shared the potential of their life-enhancing properties.
And so The Nature of Things was born.
On the Nature of Things
Over 2000 years ago, the Roman poet Lucretius wrote a book called "De Rerum Natura" – On the Nature of Things. Lucretius explores the Epicurean philosophy that everything in nature can be explained by natural laws and that we can find happiness by living a simple life, surrounded by friends and in harmony with nature. Inspired by this philosophy, they named their company The Nature of Things with a mission to improve people's lives with simple, natural and ethically produced products.
The symbols used in the logo are associated with alchemy and herbalism to capture the integrative philosophy, uniting nature, traditional knowledge and modern science. The bold and colorful illustrations represent the elements and color palette of the ingredients found in essential oils, room sprays and perfumes.
